that reminds me..
A movie I recommend is a documentary called "Trekkies"

it's a shocking look at the subculture surrounding the star trek series.
Yawn.

StarTrek did more to stifle Science Fiction than any other force, Richard Nixon included, in the 70's 80's and 90's. It took until the latter part of the 80's for anything resembling Sci Fi to return to screen and projector. Now, we get the next dose of pabulum. Yumm. :(
And just what do you call real Sci Fi? I think your statement is about as stupid as saying that the Indy 500 does not resemble auto racing. Just because you may not like it doesn't mean its not Sci Fi. It certainly isn't science fact or history or true tales.
Hehe, I think John is going to have an exceptional answer to this one. (Although my feelings were a little hurt, being an old trekkie myself, and madly in love with Captain Kirk when I was a young girl).
Myself it was Spock. Cool under pressure and only wanted sex once every 7 years. Captain Kirk kept breaking the rules and getting them into trouble and then having to work hard to survive.
Can you keep a women satisfied by only doing it once every seven years? I didn't think so. Think about it. If you have to do it every night you must be lacking something.
Because our own poet laureate (aka Snowball) is too modest to mention this herself, I'll just do it for her. Her newly published book is soon to be available in stores everywhere including Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. Info is available at her web site:
